The Power of Compounding: Why Starting Early Beats Investing More

Albert Einstein reportedly called compound interest the eighth wonder of the world. Whether or not he said it, the idea is powerful—and understanding it can change how you handle money.

Compounding means your money earns returns, and then those returns earn returns too. Over long periods, this snowball effect becomes enormous.

Consider a simple example. Two friends invest in the same fund earning about 12% a year:

- Priya starts at age 25, investing Rs 5,000 a month, and stops at 35 (just 10 years, Rs 6 lakh total).

- Rahul starts at 35, investing Rs 5,000 a month, and continues until 60 (25 years, Rs 15 lakh total).

Surprisingly, by age 60 Priya often ends up with a similar or larger corpus than Rahul—even though she invested far less money. Why? Her money had more time to compound.

The lesson is clear: when you start matters more than how much you start with. Time in the market is your greatest advantage.

So do not wait for the 'perfect' moment or a bigger salary. Start with whatever you can, stay consistent, and let compounding do the heavy lifting.
